Transportation for PIHMS students around New Plymouth

Bus

A bus runs Monday to Friday from PIHMS to New Plymouth central. The fare is $3.09 each way with a Bee Card.

Car

If you want to buy a car in New Zealand, you need to have a New Zealand recognised driver's license and ensure that your vehicle is insured.

E scooter rental

Blipscooters are available for rent all over new Plymouth. Download the app to locate one to rent when you are out and about.

It will cost you about $14.00 to get you from New Plymouth back to PIHMS

The PIHMS student association has free bikes available for use. If you have your own bike, free bike stands are available at PIHMS.

PIHMS is conveniently located in the New Plymouth suburb of Bell Block. Simply cross the road from the PIHMS campus to access local shops and community spaces 2 minutes from campus.

Students make use of the following shops and services at Bell Block:

  • Primary School

Flatting

‘Flatting’ is when you rent a house or apartment. You can flat on your own or with others and flats are usually unfurnished. You may have your own room or share with others.

Rent is usually paid per room with all other expenses (food, power, telephone, internet) divided, and cooking and cleaning shared.

Prices vary from $150 - $300 per room per week. Flats are NOT PIHMS assessed accommodation.

It's important to be well informed about your employment rights in New Zealand.

Electricity and accessories

New Zealand uses 220-240V AC, 50 Hz which is the same as Australia. Adapters, electronics and small appliances can be purchased in most stores.

Wi-Fi

PIHMS Wi-Fi is quality and similar to other high-speed connections same as you get anywhere in New Zealand. The speed is high speed however is not ultra high speed which is available in some overseas countries.
