PIHMS is required under the Education (Pastoral Care of International Students) Code of Practice 2016 to ensure 'as far as practicable' that international students have appropriate insurance, PIHMS will work alongside our international students and their agents to make sure that each student has the correct insurance for their needs and for the duration of their study.

Do International students need Insurance studying at PIHMS?

Yes, to qualify for a New Zealand student visa, international students are required to have full medical and travel insurance that complies with the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students, while you are in New Zealand.

To help, PIHMS arranges International student insurance policy through Southern Cross Insurance. This meets immigration New Zealand insurance requirements and provides you with top-quality protection during your stay.

This policy is designed to meet the needs of international students, whether it’s a stolen laptop, a broken bone or a doctor’s visit, you will be covered while you study at PIHMS. The policy also covers you while working around New Zealand during your Industry Placement destination or on weekends away. It also includes 24/7 emergency assistance, no excess on medical costs and cover if you go back home for up to 90 days. See international prices (link) or invoices for pricing.

Note: It is not compulsory for New Zealand or Australian students to have insurance.
